They open by practicing singing the “ooooh!” part of the theme song. Then they countrify the theme from Titanic, and the Pen Pals theme. They encourage Pallers to contact Michael Keaton, especially Pallers in Montana. DVK says that #saga is an updated version of the penis game, and then starts making many references to Harry Potter. Rory says that there are no age limits on new endeavors and they start to discuss whether the person they are influences the person that they become; people mature and change. Rory goes into a #rrm discussing how he actually hates the way that he used to be, and the things that he used to think were funny. DVK “Don’t commit yourself so hard to something you believe, but don’t know… Don’t confuse belief with knowledge…Strive to be an inclusive person, not an exclusive person.” Rory says that there’s two types of people, those who enjoying giving a gift, and those who enjoy getting one. DVK quote “Do not accept relationships that are less than what you deserve.” and “never indulge in negativity for the sake of being popular.” The main theme of this first letter becomes “don’t sign up for negativity.” Rory sums it up by saying that you should never be afraid to turn the car around and be better, and gives us that hashtag (that is almost covered up by DVK’s crosstalk). This is the first time that DVK says that we should never hesitate to spend money on a memory, which is something that comes up in later episodes. DVK brings up an “anything but clothes” party where people are encouraged to make their own clothes out of things like boxes etc., and various other theme parties like a white-trash party, and Bruce Jenner 1978. DVK wants to have a theme party where people dress up from the time they thought they were the coolest.
