Episode #50: “Split Parents & What is Reading”

Opens with them singing along, and Rory asks Dan what today is, and he says that it’s the 1 week anniversary of “Are They 71?” they start playing with Beau Bridges, but he’s 77. It is the 1 year anniversary of Pen Pals. They reminisce about their favorite times of the year so far, and mention the Cracker Barrel bit, and the time they started talking about sandwiches and forgot that they were only halfway through the letter that they were reading. DVK jokes, during the first letter, that there isn’t an airport in Mississippi. They try to guess how old synchronized swimming is, and DVK mentions “hooterball” which is a game that they play at the cabin. DVK quote: “Someone’s endorsement of something is not a discredit of something else.” Rory says that he would go to Chicago to watch the one sister run the marathon, because he’d be able to plan an entire day in Chicago around it. Rory says that the parents probably do a lot of things that they don’t invite their twins to because it would bore them, like a bridge tournament, which DVK says is exactly what he was thinking, and Rory says he knows because he’s a telepathicist, which is what he’s calling it, and then makes it a hashtag. The 2nd letter starts off the debate about whether or not listening to audiobooks counts as reading. The letter mentions that they #fuckWithBoggle, and it reminds DVK of a shirt that a Paller made that has a boggle gameboard on it and spelled out is “do you fuck with” and he shows Rory, and they talk about how they can sell it and that they’ll put it up on the instagram (they don’t). DVK feels like you haven’t read a book if you’ve listened to it, and they wonder if reading and listening uses different parts of your brain. They run with an exercising metaphor, and they mention 11/22/63 again. They mention that James Earl Jones has done an audiobook version of the bible; DVK asks Rory how much it would take for him to read the entire bible for a voice-over, and they talk about how there are several different versions of the bible. Rory says he’s read a lot more of the bible than Jesus has. They give some suggestions as to what books we should read, or what they have liked lately. DVK says “You are a badass” is a good book, and Rory likes “Sapiens” and “When You Read This” by Mary Atkins.
